Physical Education
At Gladstone, we believe that Physical Education (PE) plays a crucial role in not only promoting the physical development of our pupils, but also their social, emotional, and cognitive development. We intend to provide a high-quality PE curriculum that engages all children, of all abilities, in a range of activities to foster a lifelong love for physical activity and well-being. We believe that through our PE lessons, children will develop our school values and essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and respect, which will positively impact their overall academic achievements and well-being. We offer a wide variety of sporting opportunities to children of all abilities within the timetabled lessons and through our vast extra curricular activities.
Being Active
Play Leaders
We are so lucky to have such great outdoor facilities for our children to use at playtimes and lunchtimes. The children have access to all of the different yards including the MUGA on a rota basis. We have a super team of play leaders who facilitate play on some of our yards at lunchtime using some of the play and sports equipment.
Pupil Wellbeing
This year, we are excited to be working with the Youth Sport Trust with a focus on pupil wellbeing. This is a school and a Trust project. I will update this page with further information as the year progresses.
PE Curriculum
Get Set 4 PE
We are very proud of our PE curriculum (Get Set 4 PE) and the progress the children make in their lessons. In a recent pupil survey of children from Reception all the way through the school to Year 6, 100% of the children reported that they enjoy PE at school, they enjoy the variety of PE and games activities they do and are proud of their work. Quite a large number of children, when asked how PE could be improved, said that we should do it every day!
Representing the School
Tag Rugby
Our Tag Rugby team went to their first tournament this year at Trentham Rugby Club where they played brilliantly in the opening rounds and secured a place in the quarter finals. Unfortunately, our quarter final match did not go our way but we are incredibly proud of the team and for their wonderful sporting attitude.
Football
Our Y5/6 football team are training hard in preparation for their upcoming matches in the Longton District
football league. We will keep you posted about the results.
Our Y3/4 football team is going to compete in the Societas Cup which is a tournament for the schools within our trust. The children are excited to play this new event at the Stoke City Academy Dome.
On October 10th, our girls football team travelled to the Powerleague and played excellently. "We were so proud of ourselves for playing with 100% effort". It turned into a great occasion with the children meeting some of the Stoke City FC players.
"On the bus on the way home, we had the radio on - we had lots of fun!"
Cross Country
The team have been training hard in preparation for the Longton District Cross Country races. However the first race of the season was cancelled due to adverse weather. Fingers crossed they get to race again soon.
Being Active At Home
Why not take the learning beyond the school gates and try to play some of these active games at home.
