Uniform
School Wear
The Governors of the school would like all pupils to wear school uniform, believing that it encourages children to identify with and have a pride in their school. We have deliberately kept the cost of uniform to a ‘rock bottom’ price in order to make it affordable for parents.
(N.B. It is not the policy of the Education Committee to make compulsory the wearing of any distinctive clothing or uniform; but all pupils are required to attend school appropriately dressed and for the assistance of parents many schools have adopted guidelines on dress).
The school has a standard form of dress, the details of which are listed below. We have a ‘Gladstone Sweatshirt’ or cardigan available in dark purple with our own badge, and this has proved to be both practical and popular, with nearly all our children having purchased one. We also have school polo shirts available in the same colour. Uniform is available from Timberland costing from £8.50; cardigans cost from £11.50, the polo shirts cost from £8.50. Other clothing can be bought from local retailers. Timberland also sell our own book bags at £4.50 each and short waterproof coats. In Summer, girls can also wear purple chequered dresses which can be purchased from either Timberland or the local supermarkets. Trousers, boys’ school shorts, skirts, pinafore dresses or culottes of an appropriate length should be black or grey.
NB: Our official stockist for our official school uniform is Timberland. We do not sell through any other suppliers.
Children should wear sensible shoes/black leather trainers—no high heeled shoes or shoes with other bright colours or brightly coloured laces or soles please.
HAIR STYLES
Extreme hair styles such as ‘tram lines’ or ‘patterns’ or dyed brightly coloured hair is NOT allowed.
P.E.
On their P.E. day children will be allowed to wear their P.E. kit to school for the whole day.
Our school P.E. kit is as follows:
Purple school sports shirt available from Timberland.
Plain black shorts or tracksuit bottoms / jogging trousers. Tight fitting lycra
leggings are not allowed.
Plain white or black pumps / trainers (slip on for Nursery & KS1 preferable)
For outside Games lessons boys and girls can wear their school sweatshirt over their P.E. top or wear a Gladstone zip hooded top.
N.B.
They will need a separate pair of trainers for when they do cross country or games on the fields as they may get quite muddy.
JEWELLERY AND OTHER VALUABLES
It is not advisable to send children to school with large amounts of money, valuables or toys as these can easily be mislaid during movement around the school. We do not allow any jewellery at school although children in Key Stage 2 may wear a watch (which must be clearly marked with their name). Please note that nail varnish and make-up are not allowed. Over the past few years there have been several nasty accidents at various schools, to children wearing ear-rings: only the wearing of ‘studs’ or very small sleepers is permitted. Ideally, ear-rings should be left out during the school day, and replaced at night, especially when the child has games, P.E. or swimming: for health and safety reasons staff are not allowed to take ear-rings out or replace them. The school does not accept responsibility for the loss of valuables.
If your child has their ears pierced could this be done during the 6 weeks holiday please as children are not allowed to wear any jewellery during Games / P.E. Lessons. Staff are not allowed to cover earrings with plasters for P.E.
