School Council Team 2024 / 2025

Our School Councillors for this year (as voted for by their peers) are:

Y2 - Amelia and Archie

Y3 - Darcy-Grace and Teddy

Y4 - Lola and Mya

Y5 - Kiera and Leon

Y6 - Ivy and Victoria

Their first task of the year was organising the Harvest Celebrations. Collaboratively, they planned a lovely assembly full of readings, poems,  songs and celebrations involving all of our children from Nursery - Year 6. They arranged a visit from a representative from The Alice Charity as this is who the School Councillors wanted to support who was incredibly grateful for the donations of non perishable food to donate to the Peoples Pantry.

Societas Trust R.U.G.S

The RUGS is the name for our MAT Student Council. It stands for ‘Really Useful Generation Students’ Group. Its membership is usually four children from each setting within the Trust elected by their student community. Their term of office is usually 2 years. Members of the RUGS are also ambassadors for the Trust. The Group meets at least once every term and is supported by our Deputy Head Teachers’ Group. They have been instrumental in designing the Trust Activity Days for specific Year Groups and are also working on a fund-raising project to support local charities. The RUGS also act as roving reporters for the Trust reporting on all the Trust enrichment activities taking place each year, including our Shakespeare Festival, Activity Days to Inspire and Be Inspired, sporting events and much more.

Our RUGS are:

Jasmine, Thea, Max and Keeley

Their first task this year was to attend an activity day at Standon Bowers where they challenged themselves and really tested their leadership, communication and teamwork skills. They had a wonderful day working collaboratively with the other RUGS within the trust.

Office Helpers

During Lunchtime, some of the Year 6 children have a very important role, helping Mrs Stokes, with various jobs from taking registers boxes to the classes or taking messages on the phone. They have mastered the intercom. You may have even seen them open the office hatch if even you have needed to collect a child for any appointments. They are always polite and very useful

Reading Buddies

The Reading Ambassadors are a carefully hand-picked group of pupils, who have demonstrated a ‘love for reading’, which is invaluable and is shared amongst their peers to empower our ethos in school. They have a significant role in organising and running a range of reading events across the year – Bedtime Story Events (Nursery to Year 1) and World Book Day. They help to advertise our Book Fayres and they help to promote our reading initiative in school (VIP readers). They will also speak to visitors in school and share Gladstone’s drive to promote an enjoyment for reading for pleasure, as well as reading for meaning.

IT Technicians

These are our very clever SMART Computer pupils who use IT for our assemblies each week and support everyone in school ,when needed, with their technology skills. They also show their calmness under pressure and enthusiasm in what can be a very demanding role in school.

Play Leaders

We are so lucky to have such great outdoor facilities for our children to use at playtimes and lunchtimes. The children have access to all of the different yards including the MUGA on a rota basis. We have a super team of play leaders who facilitate play on some of our yards at lunchtime using some of the play and sports equipment.

Science Ambassadors

In Year 5, children volunteer for the opportunity to be Science Ambassadors. The children work on the Key Stage 1 yard and carry out experiments with the younger children. The children choose what they would like to demonstrate and usually, it is something they have carried out in Key Stage 2, but simplified. Key Stage 1 love having a taste of science from Key Stage 2 delivered by enthusiastic young scientists.
