Year 6

Year Six welcomed their parents in for a fun filled morning of treasure hunts as well as gaining information about the Key Stage Two Statutory Assessments (SATs). We had a lot of positive feedback from our parents and we wanted to thank them for their engagement and support.

Here are the wonderful outcomes from the session

Nursery

Our nursery children were delighted to welcome a parent or grandparent to our Valentine’s Watch Me Learn session!

We began by showing off our phonics and super listening skills during our story, before heading out on an exciting treasure hunt around the school grounds. Back in the school hall, the children proudly shared their Learning Journeys and talked about some of the activities they have been enjoying.

After juice and a biscuit, we made love bugs for our families, decorated biscuits, and finished by singing some of our favourite nursery rhymes together.

We had a fantastic morning and would like to say a big thank you to all the adults who joined us! đź’—

Year 4

For our Year 4 “Watch Me Learn” session, we discussed the MTC checks that will take place in June. The children sat with their adults and completed a practice soundcheck. We then recapped this term’s artist, Henry Moore, and explored why we are studying his work.

We discussed how Moore began drawing crowds of people sheltering in the London Underground during air raids. In 1941, he became an official war artist and was commissioned to create more of these “Shelter Drawings.” This work transformed his reputation and made him known to a much wider audience.

During the session, we created artwork demonstrating depth and tone by combining media to create an effect. We used a technique involving wax resist, where one substance (wax) repels water-based media such as watercolours, allowing the underlying surface to show through.

To do this, we drew our own figures on paper, then used wax to add depth and create light and shadow. We then applied watercolours over the wax, inspired by the techniques used by Moore.

Year 2

A huge thank you to all the families who were able to join us for our Watch Me Learn session this morning. It truly was a wonderful morning, and it meant so much to see so many of you sharing in your children’s learning. The children absolutely loved having the opportunity to work with you on their habitat boxes—they were so proud and excited!

Year 1

The Watch Me Learn session began with a short briefing for parents about the phonics check, including what it involves and how children are supported in school. Following this, parents joined their children in a range of engaging phonics-based activities. These included games such as Snakes and Ladders and Bingo, designed to reinforce sound recognition and blending skills in a fun and interactive way. The session provided a valuable opportunity for parents to see learning in action and to gain ideas for supporting phonics development at home.
