Ethos and Aims

Gladstone Primary Academy is a school where every child is a valued individual, where everyone ‘aims high’ and where ‘lifelong learning’ is valued and promoted. We think of our school as an exciting place; one that is continually being developed and improved by staff, governors, children and parents.

Our school is unique in that we offer a bespoke Nurture Provision called the 'Den' and this practice is embedded in all that we do at Gladstone.

The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils is at the heart of all that we do. We celebrate that ‘We are ALL Equally Different’; celebrating pupils’ (and staff) talents and aptitudes across a wide range of subject areas. We believe that is vitally important to provide our children with a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum which is inclusive for all whilst encouraging children to develop resilience and tenacity and aim high at all times.

The school ethos underpins these aims by fostering a bright, stimulating, exciting and welcoming learning environment where everyone shows respect for one another, whilst valuing diversity and rewarding positive behaviour.

SCHOOL AIMS

At Gladstone, we aim to ensure that:

* Children will be provided with learning experiences in a supportive, caring environment so that each individual sees themselves as successful learners, who ‘aim high’.

* We promote a ‘can do’ culture where home and school work together.

* We build the children’s self esteem and remove any ‘barriers to learning’.

* There is a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum that caters for all abilities and will           equip children with the knowledge, skills and attitudes for later life.

* Children develop a strong sense of respect for themselves, for others, and the wider community.

* We instil respect for religious and moral values and encourage children to have a sympathetic understanding of other races, religions and cultures.

How is this to be achieved

By:

* Applying our increasing knowledge of how children learn best, considering evidenceinformed research,  to improve our teaching.

* Catering for a range of learning styles and encouraging children to take more responsibility for their own learning.

* Helping children discover their strengths and their talents

* Creating an exciting, vibrant and purposeful learning environment both inside and outside the classroom.

* Arranging for artists in residence to work with the children and by organising interesting  educational visits.

* Using highly motivational rewards systems and by setting challenging targets.

* Using IT and technology to enhance learning in an everchanging digital world

* Creating a high quality broad curriculum for all children that encourages independence, self-assessment and creative thinking.

* Extending the curriculum to include a wide variety of extra curricular opportunities.

* Promoting positive relationships with parents and the wider community.

* Monitoring and evaluating our school community on a regular basis through  regular reviews, questionnaires to parents and feedback from children and using the  information this provides to adapt and improve our school.
